Jack White recently shared a viral video on Instagram of a street band in Tehran performing a cover of The White Stripes’ iconic 2003 worldwide hit, “Seven Nation Army.” The clip was filmed by journalist Afshin Ismaeli and features locals – including some women without hijabs – nodding along despite Iran’s strict dress laws. The video features a band led by a user named Arshia, with the performance symbolizing solidarity amid ongoing protests over mandatory hijab enforcement. The UN Human Rights Council reported in March that Iran “continues to ramp up efforts to restrict the rights of women and girls.” The White Stripes are set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on November 8, joining the 2025 class of inductees that features Cyndi Lauper, OutKast, Soundgarden, Bad Company, Thom Bell, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Nicky Hopkins, Carol Kaye, Salt-N-Pepa, Lenny Waronker, and Warren Zevon.
