On Tuesday (October 28), Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil announced the upcoming publication of his memoir, A Screaming Life: Into the Superunknown with Soundgarden and Beyond, which is set for release on May 19, 2026, via Harper Collins. Co-written with music journalist Adem Tepedelen, the autobiography chronicles Thayil’s journey from growing up as the son of immigrants in Chicago to co-founding Soundgarden in Seattle’s underground rock scene, exploring the band’s rise as grunge pioneers and their global impact. “It follows my experiences, journeys and growth with the band and the building of the Seattle music scene, as we worked and played towards our worldwide successes,” Thayil shared about the book. “I explore the heights, depths and insights gained from my experiences within the unique and special brotherhood we built.” Thayil’s book coincides with Soundgarden’s upcoming induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on November 8, where the band is set to perform with guest vocalists – including Taylor Momsen – sitting in for the late Chris Cornell.
